Miriam Makeba Gives Last Performance

One of the most outspoken apartheid activists for South Africa was Miriam Makeba.  Her activism was entrenched in her music and fed nations of people the inspiration to fight against the oppression and injustice in her country.  The singer succumbed to cardiac arrest while leaving the stage where she performed in Southern Italy Sunday night.  The New York Times quoted an interview she gave in 2008 saying:   “I’m not a political singer. I don’t know what the word means. People think I consciously decided to tell the world what was happening in South Africa. No! I was singing about my life, and in South Africa we always sang about what was happening to us – especially the things that hurt us.”  Read the full story here.  God Bless and Welcome Her.
