It feels like the moment Barack Obama was pronounced President of the United States, the Earth stopped its rotation for a moment to acknowledge the victory. People were running through the streets all over the world, especially Kenya. The Kenyan people, just as the majority of other black people throughout the world, felt a special bond with Obama’s success. The significance is so tremendous that Kenyan President, Mwai Kibaki made a trailblazing decision to make November 6, a national holiday. Hopefully, the U.S. will follow suit. Bush needs to take advantage of this as one of his last redeeming acts before exiting the White House. But judging from his congratulations speech to Obama, which was dry to say the least, it’s not likely. Read here and celebrate with Kenya.
