One of the biggest changes in the 21st century is the advancement of information technology. The use of the Internet has been both a blessing and a curse to society. In the wrong hands, too much information and/or exposure can be quite lethal. But in the right hands, attorneys, doctors, presidents, and graduates are being made everyday. The computer age is here in full force and has gotten a major upgrade by a company that has implemented sort of a “green” way of extending an education to our children that might not have been possible otherwise.
In Highland Park, Michigan–in the center of Detroit–Highland Park Career Academy is host to 1400, 16-19 year old students that are benefiting from a company that has innovated computer reliability. QWK2LRN has developed a machine that has nearly 100% dependability. Uri House, a Computer Developer and Specialist who collaborates with the company says that they have built these super computers by an “eclectic use of technology.” He notes that the students stellar performance can be attributed to consistent computer use. The students who are using academic software packages to learn english and math are excelling in their studies.
“The uptime on the machines is the key. They are virus free, incredibly fast.” According to House, they use a “fast reliable server to create a thin client like environment.” Read more about this wave of the future and get excited about your child’s future all over again.

Reportedly, love is in the air between the rapper and the tennis phenom, Common and Serena Williams. They seem to be an unlikely couple, but maybe he could provide her with theme music for her next smackdown on the court. Who knows? Whatever the fascination between the two, it’s a good look. The OMG site recently published photos of the two in an unlikely scene. If you thought they would be an unlikely couple because of their professions, these photos will further your fascination about the two. In one photo, they look like our new Dynamic Duo. Check them out as they hang 10.

Back in the late 50’s, there seemed to be some strange things appearing in the not-so friendly skies. The U.S. military called on its own “Ghostbusters” and went after something that, from one soldier’s account, flew at 7,600 mph, over Britain. The significance of that speed is that we, in 2008, still have nothing in military or otherwise that flies that fast. Our fastest plane in the U.S. military flies at Mach 10, which is just some fancy schmancy military jargon that means it flies at nearly 7,000 mph. We’ve heard similar controversy about Roswell, NM just a decade prior to the incident in Britain. Well now the cat’s out the bag and classified information involving the unknown is being made public in London. Read all about the real Star Trek here.

Are there houses being built near you? Have they destroyed a forest to make it happen? Even in the inner city, some whole blocks are being torn down and rebuilt to make way for new development. But, we should be leery of what the promise of rebuilding offers. No one thinks about the “displaced.” Yeah, that’s right! THE WILDLIFE! They are coming to visit a lot of us. It used to be an immense undertaking when a rat would get in someone’s house. You’d have to enlist a host of family members, neighbors, sometimes pest control to help get rid of it. But in Olympia, Washington, residents are battling rats by the droves. They have found themselves doubling up on rat traps and baits. Where’s that Pied Piper when you need him? And we don’t mean R. Kelly. Check out the rat chronicles here.

We’ve been hearing about contaminated bottled water for some time. Some of the bottled water distributors were putting tap water in bottles and selling it. Now Wal-Mart and Giant have been caught selling water that does not meet certain standards. The Wal-Mart brand is Sam’s Choice and the Giant brand is Acadia. Both have levels of chlorine that far exceed the regulatory standards. These levels of chlorine byproducts have been known to cause birth defects. Read here to see if Wal-Mart and Giant will make it out of court over this one.

Is the economy so bad that people are killing their children, their elders, their mothers for insurance money or, in this case, social security and retirement checks? Well, to be fair, in this woman’s case, her mother had already passed on. But, rather than get her mom from the nursing home and take her to a funeral parlor, she figured she’d cut some corners. She took her mother home and cremated her on a makeshift barbecue pit. Can you believe it? This is 2008 and folk are making burnt offerings of their family members and consoling themselves with their money. What level of sickness are you working with when you’re capable of committing such a crime? That just scratches the surface of the mayhem though. Read here for the gruesome details.
