If you haven’t heard of Bush’s latest attempt to redeem himself in this economic disaster he’s caused, here’s your chance.  Bush signed into law the Hope for Homeowners Act of 2008, on Wednesday to try to pull at least 400,000 homeowners out of foreclosure.  If you qualify, you can get your old mortgage replaced with a brand new 30-year fixed rate loan for up to 90 percent of your home’s current value.  Ok, but, you know who’s behind this deal right?  Bush!  So look for a few catch 22’s in there.  Like the fact that it’s still up to your bank whether to extend you the benefits of the new law. And oh yeah! Look at the part about what happens when or if you’re able to sell your home after refinancing through the government.  Here’s a full Q&A of the new law, so you can see for yourself if this is at all helpful.

Is anyone driving a Cadillac anymore?  GM’s sales say no.  Toyota on the other hand has every other person in America behind the wheel of an Avalon.   The New York Times reports that in the first half of 2008, Toyota outsold GM by nearly 300,000 cars.  The car industry behemoth is struggling under the economy’s production costs.  Wednesday, Chrysler chimed in to the tune of the cutting of another 1,000 jobs.  Read the full story here.

Las Vegas may have to roll up the red carpet, bring in the gondoliers, use less lightbulbs (or the curly cost effective kind) and finally retire Wayne Newton.  The state is experiencing a drought and two major waterways are drying as we speak.  According to a new report, the damage that has been done will cause two major lakes to completely evaporate within 13 years.  The trickle down effect could be a hike in unemployment.  This is one very good example of what happens when we sweep our air pollution problems under the rug. The drastic climate change that results will deal with us if we never choose to deal with it.  Read the full story here.

house-for-sale.jpgHave you noticed your neighbor’s “For Sale” sign out front for over a year?  Well, maybe it’s because they can’t give it away.  According to the National Association of Realtors, sales dropped by 2.6 percent last month which is double the drop that was expected.  It appears that if you’re a homeowner, you had better hold on to your property until things shape up.  This economy is either forcing you to stay in your house or forcing you out of it…no in between.  Read the full story here.
