Think of NASCAR….OK that’s long enough. What did you think of? What is the first thing that came to mind? A. Cars B. Men C. “Good ol’ Boys” That’s right! D. All of the above. Now, imagine you’re a young black woman working on the track alongside, A, B, C, and D. What is THAT like? Well, we’re all getting ready to find out exactly what it was like because Ms. Mauritia Grant has slapped the racing organization with a $225 million lawsuit, alleging racial and sexual discrimination, sexual harassment and wrongful termination.
‘In the lawsuit she details her experiences on the track over the years and incidents leading up to her being fired. She recalled that “when packing up a dark garage at Texas Motor Speedway an official told her to ‘Keep smiling and pop your eyes out ’cause we can’t see you.” Not only that, she alleges to have been called names like “Nappy Headed Mo” and “Queen Sheba,” by co-workers.
