Obama has had a lot of mud slung his way, but surely he didn’t think he’d be characterized as a monkey…a famous monkey…Curious George. A Georgia tavern owner has been capitalizing off a t-shirt business he’s started. The t-shirts he sells has Curious George on the front holding a banana and “Obama in ’08” written underneath. The outrage of Obama depicted in this way has resulted in Mike Norman, the owner of Mulligan Food & Spirits, being picketed by those who say the “characterization of presidental candidate Barack Obama as a monkey is racist,” reports the Boston Herald.
WGBH in Boston, which co-produces the “Curious George” children’s television show is quite unhappy with the use of the famous monkey against Obama.
“It’s offensive,” said Jennifer Welsh, a spokeswoman for the PBS-affiliated station. “We would never grant permission for this.”
And this is not the first stirrup with the monkey and Obama, earlier this year, Rush Limbaugh had to apologize on air for laughing at a caller’s comment that her daughter thought Obama looked like Curious George.
